Semax is a synthetic peptide with the amino acid sequence Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro. It’s an analog of a fragment of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), produced naturally in the pituitary gland [1]. Known for its nootropic effects, it mimics the actions of adrenocorticotropic hormone. Scientific Studies A study on rats found that Semax exerts its influence on brain function and learning through stimulating increased release of serotonin and dopamine [1]. In a 2017 study published in Molecular Genome and Genomics, rats with focal cerebral ischemia were administered Semax and their cerebral cortex was examined. Compared to control rats, rats given Senax had increased immunoglobulin synthesis and less neurotransmission in the CNS.
